I've just been told by my wonderful insurers Privilege that it will cost an additonal £256 per year to change my wheels!!!
Surely they aren't such a risk that they add 30% to my premium??
I'm pretty sure that four standard Subaru wheels and tyres from the Main Dealer would cost a lot more than an aftermarket set, yet they don't load the premium for them??
Just goes to show that a cheap quote isn't the be-all and end-all of insurance.
Should have went with someone like Adrian Flux... at least they don't hammer you for non-perfomance mods!!

I'm sure that most of it is to do with "Performance" modifications as the insurers class them. Normally non-standard wheels mean larger wheels which they assume will affect handling etc.
Eagle star were the same when I wanted to upgrade to 17s whereas with LV it made no difference. You are also probably right in that standard subaru wheels would retail at much more than after market ones.
Wait until you can change insurers - I did

I'd think the reason for the increase is it looks more attractive to the common thief, so there is a higher risk of a claim occuring resulting from this addition. Just wait for renewal and go for a more mod friendly insurance company.
