What's best upgrade for MY97??
I currently have an MY97 (2 pots) with a pants braking system.
I have uprated so far with Goodridge Hoses, MRT bracket and DOT5.1 fluid (with regular bleeds) but they are still pretty crap.
Do the 4pots off newer turbos/sti's fit easily, as I am thinking that these should be my next addition??
I know the ideal would be a big brake kit, but I can't justify the massive outlay required for Brembos etc. Does anyone have any other suggestions??
Cheers,
Leeroy

Whats your budget mate. £575.00 got me 4 pots 325mm discs, hoses and fluid from Godspeed. A lot better than the standard set up and the discs look fantastic under the alloys. Seem to get more attention than the car!!
Its still a tight with the 308mm kit.
Not sure if all 16 inch wheels fit so its best to check first.

Buy secondhand 4pot and TarOx metalceramic disc + sintered pads. Amazing performance I have it for two days and stopping power is unusable on traffic it is a question of the time only when I get hit from car behind me
Rich,
They look extremely flipping tight! I don't think i'll risk buying them to find they don't fit beneath my alloys, as I certainly don't want to fork out on new wheels just yet - engine/suspension/brakes are far more important to me than spangly new wheels!!
Anyway, going back to my original plan and after listening to Eriks advice, I think i'll be on the lookout for some 4pots. Is there any difference between the STi/P1/Turbo calipers, and will they fit easily??

yes any of the "subaru" 4pot calipers will fit.....remember you'll need the larger 294mm disc to match as well!!
the alternative would be to put decent discs/pads into your current set-up something like Pagid rs4.2 or Ferodo ds2500 (you don't mention anything about this unless i've miread your post) - these are the most important components in the system, the fluid and hoses only help feel and temp. capability NOT stopping power!!
hope this helps.......

Alyn,
I have had Mintex M1144 pads on my previous scoob, but didn't really notice a massive difference unless under heavy braking. As for a performance disc upgrade, i have my doubts as to whether grooved/drilled standard size discs add any significant benefit - I have not fitted these to a scoob before but I have to other vehicles and was never really impressed.
I am open to advice on this subject though as I can well believe if you get the right disc/pad combo performance will be improved no end!

some of the "fashion" discs can be worse than O.E.!!
depends on your budget, but the options i have suggested are much better than 1144......this range of pads is getting a little old hat now and there are better more modern compounds available!!
if you need any specific help, feel free to mail me......
