My scooby was serviced about 2500 miles ago (4 months), since then I have sold it to my old man. On reading through the service book he noticed that one of the regular checks was for the gearbox fluid. When he checked it wasn't even touching the dipstick, let alone the low level marker.

Should I be expecting this sort of thing to have been spotted by the dealer the length of time ago? Or will they have some sort of get out clause - assuming that there are no problems with leaks of course.

I think that unless you have an obvious leak from the gearbox, the level should certainly be correct. My car's oil level has not altered since I topped it up when I first got it, I have never had to put any more oil into the gearbox to maintain the level.

I think the most basic service states that all fluid levels must be checked. I stand to be corrected though if anyone knows for sure.

The gearbox took nearly half a pint to get to full on the stick.Your main dealer used Total oil in the gearbox and Total semi synthetic in the engine.Should I change both of them to something better, bearing in mind the way you used to drive it?

Were you reading the hot or cold marks, you should really only read them when the tranny is at full operating temperature. Not sure why they even put the cold one there.
