Question:
I'm looking at buying a P1 from a main dealer but it has a rather loud exhaust. I am told it is a 'straight-thru'.
Will this pass an MOT?

 

Yes, as long as they haven't changed the downpipe. There are 2 cats on the clasic style scoob, one of which is on the center section, the other on the down pipe. Check with them, as if the downpipe has been changed the car should be re-mapped.

 

just ask them if it is de-catted, if so, it will fail a mot, unless you have a mate with a garage

The P1 only has one cat on the downpipe.There is only a resonator in the centre section.

If the mid section was replaced I dont know if it would add much by way of power but I would guess it would make it louder.Think all the resonator does if muffle the noise.Chek the downpipe though in case that has been replaced by a decatted one.If so , most people would keep the original for MOT's , sale with the car so you may be able to get hold of that with the car.

My understanding is if the downpipe cat is still there then its got the normal emission output, hence will pass?

 

hmm I thought you said straight through, that would indicate downpipe to??

Also even if just the downpipe remains could still be dodgy as I have heard P1 emissions are higher than most scoobs as standard and only just scrapped in via a backdoor by Suburu UK claiming supercar status.

 

hmm i will have to check with the dealer - he said to me its a 'straight through' - thats all i know.
I guess i need to do some digging and find out what really has been done as i dont want a nasty suprise come MOT time!

 

I'm surprised if a main dealer will sell a decated car as an approved used Subaru All I ever hear from dealers is that decats invalidate your warranty!!!

 

when i part xd my p1 against my sti 7 the dealer was gutted i had taken the full ss system off, they also had a my00 with a full ss system for sale
