Question

After seeing tiff do them on top gear the other week i thought - now i would like to have a go at that....

Possibly not at 100MPH but you get my 'drift'

Thing is at the last trackday i went on i went beyond my limits and spun and was warned to calm down...
Also there is not enough room to run off and it is obviously dangerous to other track drivers...
I assume the rules are the same for all types of track days?

Unless u work for top gear or have your own track i cant see how you can do it?

As you come off the M25 (clockwise)at the M4 junction, there is a lovely right hander to practise on.
Just make sure it's early on a sunday morning

when it was really icy and snowy reecently in an old car park doing power slides the spedo was reading over 100 mph!!

Howerver the car was only doing around 20mph the rest was just the wheels spinning on the ice!

Pete.

It grabs me that it might be a useful Scoobynet reference list were everyone can look up their nearest. Only one problem....where are they all???

Anyone got any ideas on the best way to capture them or just start a thread off here and now??

Do a search on google for 'disused airfield uk' and you may have more luck getting *'access'* to one

The site is ok. But if you don't know the location or name of the airstrip it does help me thinks....there must be a way of stating your location and getting a list of the nearest surely????

LOL @ Brunters

Can individuals get access to Brunters? A collegue of mine got 165mph out of his type-R WRX at Brunters but that was on one of our driver training days.

I don't think you could get on unless you pay big money, can you? After all it is a proving ground for prototype cars so manufacturers won't want any old bod nailing his scooby round!

I can arrange a drift day for you on a closed airfield the cost is £500 and is restricted to 20 cars so i can sort if you want to get the ball rolling

If you seriously want to learn more about driving the car, its limits as well as how to slide sideways as safely as possible try a first lotus airfield day see www.1stlotus.co.uk.
You will have enough space to fill your boots safely & with an instructor & they will tailor the course to whatever you want. They will also help you find the limits of your car & yourself

Woodvale airodrome, during the set up for the show.
We usually camp the night before because we go with a club with a showstand etc,so you can do what you like within reason.
Large slab type runways, with big sweeping bends either end, loads of grass run offs with no trees to hit for at least 600yrds.
You have to wait your turn though as the bikes use it to show off their wheelie skills.

All Drifters.....

Be very careful with your local "disused/unused" airfields....
Most of these still belong to the MoD and are under care and maintenance or privately owned. You don't really want to be power sliding around a corner and meet a landing Hercules on exercise doing over a 100mph and weighing about 60 tons - as you would lose!!!!! Or even if no planes about, having a 1 ton container drifting down beside you on a parachute!!!!

Best way is contact your local car/motorsport club as they tend to have all the gen about local airfields as they usuallly to have agreements to use them.

Hey, you may even get involved in the competition of "12-car rallies" where even a mini with a good crew can beat a scooby no probs through the driving and nav events of the comp on a dark and stormy winter night.

Bedford autodrome has a corner where you can do 100mph powerslides I span twice at 100mph on this corner trying to keep the slide going. Need ***** (and a nice powerful rwd car too ) but it's great fun and if you go off, it's just onto grass. Do it as a whole trackday though. An airfield will be better if you're only wantign to do powerslide practice.
