Hi, My Friend had his STI TYPE R stolen last night from the Wingerworth area of Chesterfield. It's light blue metalic with gold wheels. The reg number is S555 JOK. The car was taken by professionals as they bypassed a cat 1 alarm and tracker system. If any one is offered this vehicle or any parts off a type R, please e-mail me or Phone 01246 590807. A cash reward is offered for any information leading to the wearabouts of the vehicle, Thanks

Question

I thought that Tracker type devices had their own power supply to keep them working even if the main power from the car was removed!

I don't think that all trackers have a battery.
The things are supposed to be unseen and unknown so once someone spots them their value is limited (or their lifespan).

i have the rac trackster and im pretty convinced it does have its own power source but only lasts about 12hrs when cut from the battery but it could of been inside as the only person who knows where it is is the fitter himself

I found mine too when installing some ICE, if I was trying to nick the car I dont think it would take me long to find and rip it out.

First of all Kev and Dave are top guys, they love scoobys and are really genuine and friendly, they have obviously shown these scumbags round the place because they are proud of what they do.
if you hear anything about this theft please contact them!!
As for getting round the security of the car, these are pro`s
probably with inside info on most systems, i bet you can get info on them from the net!!
the trouble with this kind of theft is what will the insurance companys insist upon having fitted now?

Yes danny-boy, but would you do this on someone's drive or in a public place before you drove off? As soon as you drive off the car is being tracked so you can't go far before you have to take time to remove the device. If the police are fed with the latest known position you are taking a big risk IMHO. I still have faith in Tracker as a deterrent, especially the auto-activated type.

To be fair mate, I wouldn't nick someone's car. And it doesnt take long to get the dash apart in a Scoob.

I hate car thieves and vote they should be tortuned for a very long time!

Hope you get your car back mate

Cheers

I would say that most trackers will have batteries now, if they don't they are not worth having IMO. Just like an alarm siren there use is next to nothing if they die when the wires are cut.

I guess it goes to show that if someone is determined enough they will go to almost any length to get what they want. B@stards. I agree that they should be tortured and given a life even worse than the sad deprived one that they must have already led.

I really hope this car turns up, however if the insurance pay up then it may be better than owning a stolen recovered? I don't know to be honest.

The latest system that is being trialed is one where the service centre can immobilise your car and you have to get it disarmed over the phone. They can also immobilise a car whilst it is on the move. It all depends on how serious you are and how much the tw@t wants your motor.

Oh I hate thieves!!!!!!!!

but don't the tracker only start to work when you report the car stolen?? so if you parked in a place where there's not many people they've got plenty of time to find the tracker before they drive off?

RAC Trackstar Guardian works as soon as the car moves if the system is not disarmed. You do not have to inform. The Control Centre then call you to check whether it is a false alarm (ferry etc.)

If your keys are stolen and the device is disarmed then you can still advise that the car has been stolen and it can be tracked.

Its rediculous that you cant work hard and treat yourself to a nice car without knowing that some little tw@t will have their eye on it.

Thanks for the response guys, the car has'nt turned up yet and probably wont. The only advice I can Give from all this is if your car has got a tracker keep it to yourself. The Type R was actually for sale and many punters had knowledge that the car had a tracker, also what alarm was fitted and any other saftey features. They also had a good look where the vehicle was kept and even a test drive in it. The car was probably stolen to order, and what better way to look for one than in the trader. So when advertising your car keep the tracker to yourself, cheers

Tricky one that.. if you DON'T mention you have a tracker, they may be more likely to TRY to pinch it.. but at the same time improving your chances of recovering it if they do..

There's a variety of different ways trackers work, it depends on which make and which version. 'Trakker'offer three types - the base one is activated when you tell them the car has been stolen, the second has a motion sensor and they call you if the immobiliser hasn't been disarmed but the vehicle has moved, the most expensive has GPS aswell as a radio transmitter for better tracking.

My advise would be to use a reputable installer, get one that has to be disarmed either with a seperate transponder or from the immobiliser itself and don't tell anyone that it is fitted, like you have just said.

It's cr@p that is has to be like this but I guess if we still want nice cars then we will have to live with it. Sadly.

Really sorry to hear about this.
Hope the f*ckers get done.
I couldn't afford to run my immaculate scoob so I sold it.
I now drive a nisan micra. And WILL buy another scoob again. Just because i can't afford a scoob dosen't mean I will nick one. No morals these people who steal cars.

It really makes me mad when I read theads like this.
Hope you find it
Best wishes
Steve
