This evening while driving i put the car in second and when accelarting a strange noise came from underneath the car. Cant really describe the noise but it was like something scraping.

When i pulled over on tick over there was a clunking noise which you could hear fron under the bonnet. I managed to get the car home and the noise i heard in second was just starting to come in 3rd as well.

Does this sound like the gear box has gone ? I havent got a clue about stuff like this but i imagine it is. I had problems with 5th last week and it had been parked up since then but that came back when i took it for a drive tonight.

Cars a UK2000 so what options have i got would i be best off replacing it with another uk box or would you reccomend one out of another if it is the box that has gone ?

 

Sounds like you have stipped some teeth.

Open up the sump plug and if you find some metal on the drain plug then you have blown some teeth

Subaru's blow teeth off second gear and bend the teeth on fifth.

3rd probabily picked up some of the broken teeth from second breaking teeth on 3rd.
