reset ecu true or false?
hi lads,
picked up my 99v uk turbo 5 door on friday, immediately filler her up with optimax, getting full decat exhaust fitted this weekend, have been advised that once the exhaust has been fitted, I should disconnect the battery, leave it off for an hour, the ecu will re-set itself based upon the higher fuel octane rating and exhaust setup?
I need somebody who knows what they are talking about to help me please guys
cheers

Or you can just let it adjust over the next 2-3 tanks. But yes - if the previous owner didn't use Optimax, it will have 'learned' the lower octane rating & disconnecting the battery is the easiest way of resetting the ECU, yup
This trick does not work for 1999 model year cars only for 2001+. In addition it can expose the car to excessive detonation as you instantly ask for full monty ignition which may be inappropriate and excessive, so should IMHO only be done with knock monitoring.
