Question

Just wondered, got an STi backbox that makes no noise to speak of, has anyone tried taking it apart at the seam and removing some of the baffles inside?

Got me tin opener at the ready

It's a do something cheap job

Why chuck out a perfectly good (albeit too quite) exhaust only to spend at least 300 squidlys on a bit of aluminium that does the same job but has different (read less) bits inside?

Drill some holes in the backbox, that should make it louder.

I plasma torched the baffles out of my OE box as an experiment (similar to STi internally), then replaced the twin pea shooters with a new back plate and 90mm diam. bit of stainless. The car seemed to spool up a bit better but the resulting noise was painful on boost, but at least I couldn't hear the wife complaining in the passenger seat. And I still can't hear her complaining cos of the tinnitus I incurred. Which is a bonus.

Is this simply to keep the OEM look, or a "do something cheap" idea

If it's just to keep the OEM look, AFAIK Scoobyworld do a twin pipe stainless exhaust that is supposed to sound a bit better than standard.

Second hand stainless steel back box is the best answer, I got a Scooby Sport, looks and sounds superb, will never rust and you can polish it!!!!!
