Are there any downsides to changing the downpipe?

Apart from the permanent grin of course. Thinking of doing mine on an RB5.

emmissions if you do the centre too, but you an swap this in 20mins for an MOT. I've got the TSL one fitted to my RB5. Lovely turbo whistle You can get good results from DP and backbox, leaving the OEM centre and you'll not need to worry about MOT.

if you do it yourself make sure you have a big tin of WD40 as the bolts on the back of the turbo are a nightmare!
give em a good soaking a few hours before and you may get lucky.

I've heard of worrying boost spikes and knock. Although this is probably more apparant on the more powerfull Japanese scoobys as opposed to the UK models.

And some plasters for the inevitable bleeding knuckles from the evil heatshield bolts

Cool

I've the full TSL decat on my 98MY uk Turbo - ITS GREAT !

only downside is noise - depends on your throttle level and neighbours...

Thanks for the comments. I won't be attempting to do it my self that's for sure! I was just interested to know if there were any problems with vibration, poor fit, knocking on the underside of the car, too noisy inside etc.

Does it affect fuel consumption when driving normally (in other words when the missus is with you!) - I would think if it flows more efficiently it should be better when cruising at a steady speed?

I would keep the centre section standard so MOT shouldn't be a problem. Is there anyone south of Bedford who has a downpipe/backbox done that maybe I could have a listen to inside the car?

Cheers.

Cool

I wouldn't say consumption was affected, except a desire to hit the gas !

I've also had no probs with rattles etc. I believe it can be a bit 'boomy' in the back of the car at speed, but, again, this is mainly on throttle. When cruising, even at 60+, I've found the car noise quite acceptable (Though nowhere near as quiet as my wifes xsara...)

'fraid I'm not in your area - sorry

Mark
