Unhappy

Did an interim oil change yesterday, decided to use Motul 300v 15w50 (my dealer puts magnatec in) seeing as everyone says it good, but now my minor piston slap sounding noise when started from cold had turned into a louder piston slap noise when started from cold!!!!!!!! i have an MY99 V-reg

thoughts please on whether this could be coincidence or whether magnatec is better than motul? (in a keeping engine noise down kinda way)

Can't comment on the piston slap etc. but many engines are louder when run on fully synthetic as opposed to semi as magnatec is.

Are you sure that it's piston slap and not tappet noise? They're pretty sensitive to oil grades. J

pretty sure its piston slap, has that diesel deep note sound to it when its started, tappets are more of higher pitched ticking

Question

I thought you'd had the car inspected at the dealers and it wasn't piston slap? Are you sure you want the downpipe fitted this weekend?

At a 15w rating the Motul is a bit thick for winter use and it will take a bit longer for it to get circulating on a very cold morning. The recommended grades are shown against a temperature chart in your owners manual.
