Catless Exhaust vs Superchip????
Hey Guys,
I hope everyone is well!
Please forgive me, but I am new to owning a subaru, and as such really appreciate all the help and advice you have given me over the last week or so on the various topics I have posted.
My questions today are, do i fit a full stainless steel cat free exhaust to get extra power, or do I leave the stainless backbox that is already on my 99V 5dr turbo 2000 and get the thing superchipped?
If I fit the full exhaust (£550 from Evolution in Newcastle Upon Tyne) what realistic power gains can I expect to get?
If I get a superchip, will I get the 40 extra bhp they reckon you get?
Also, I want to get a turbo boost gauge fitted, could anyone advise me on the gauges that are available at the moment. My last car was a Volvo 850 T5 with about 285bhp, simply adjusted the wastegate, added a T piece, and hey presto, shxt off a stick! are Subarus as easy or more difficult to mod?
Lastly, on what octane petrol to use, I have been advised to fill her up with optimax, run maybe half a tank off, dissconnect the battery, leave it off for 1 hour, re-connect the battery, the ecu should then re-map itself to the extra octane rating and in theory give me a more responsive / quicker car, now is this true or bullshxt? (my car is a 1999 Vreg turbo 2000 5 door)
As always, your help & advice is massively appreciated.
Cheers Boys

Decat not Superchip
Optimax no ECU reset required just drive
Consider boost gauge and a Dawes device set to 16.5 PSI max.
Any more get a knocklink before doing anything more exciting.
These engines are very strong if you do not let them detonate.

Agree, but get the decat, panel filter or K+N,then knocklink to be safe.
I say this because I have full decat and a K+N and with my sti intercooler (not much diff) and uprated pipes I managed to increase boost up to 1.05 bar peak.
Also a boost gauge is a must.
I must just add that I have a superchip with bleed valve for sale which gave my car 270bhp, yours for 80 quid, just 4 wires to connect to ecu and fit bleed valve, but must sort out fuelling or at least install knocklink first.
The best way would be not to use superchip and go for the link/gems etc, lots better m8 but loadsa money.
