WRX Wagon roof bars - do they come off?

I've just bought a 95 wrx wagon with its standard roof bars. I assume these come off somehow, does anyone know how? Also will they leaves holes in the roof? I know some cars have small plastic slides which cover up these holes or will I need to get blanking plates and where could I get those?
