Question

Hi
3rd to 4th has started crunching when changing at over about 4000rpm.
Does this spell disaster - gearbox recon time - or could it's life be prolonged by a change of oil.
& if it's the worst news how much should I be looking at - recon, labour time, new clutch as well?
Is it a relatively straight forward job?
46k miles btw.
Any experiences of this - must be pretty common.
Cheers.

Affraid it sounds like the common MY98 fault...weak syncro rings...mine did the same about 2 years ago at 50k miles, got them replaced under warranty

When i first got my MY99 it did exactly as you describe. It went away as soon as the car was serviced, so it was either a crap oil issue or low oil.
Your first port of call is to swap the G/B oil for sommat nice

Cheers - sounds like a good idea to start.
Castrol syntrax gets the vote then.
Is this the best stuff for the diff too ?
