Question

I was thinking of removing these and keeping the standard STi Back Box as I quite like it. Will this improve the performance or will I have to replace the BB as well?

If I was you change the BB first cos you will find a performance increase by just doing that, the standard BB is very restrictive. The centre sections don't really make that much difference but again will give you a wee bit more.

Question

There were problems with the 7's due to decatting, ie BIG boost spikes which aint good for your engine
Id suggest you talk to one of the people who had this problem (Dave T-S springs to mind ) and see what he says about it.

Big boost spikes were produced by changing up-pipes and downpipes, and not by backboxes and centre sections.
