Some of the new ECUs (only played with STi) are much better at controlling boost than the old ones, so you may do fine with the standard 2 port.
Grade A sold me and others a 3 port for £35.

I may be wrong, but I believe . .
BR developments will map with a 3 port by preference, but will offer either as an option. PE & Scoobysport normally map with a 2 port. Can't comment for others
Pro's - faster response time allows better boost control, less spiking, can therefore bring it to a boost target slightly faster and hold it there better.
Con's - Cost of the solenoid. Dealer more likely to notice it. I'm not certain, but I think you also need a custom map rather than "off the shelf", so more money. Custom maps will be suited exactly to your car, so are certainly worth it if you have lots/unusual mods.
Generally - gives the ECU better control, but costs a little more. Speak to Bob Rawle and he'll tell you the exact cost difference.
Personally I'm happy with an ecutek 2 and 2 port on my MY02, full exhaust, up-pipe etc. If I put on more major mods (injectors, turbo, fuel pump, intercooler), I'd get a custom map and a 3 port. But that's just me rather than a "right" answer.

I use a 3 port solenoid in conjunction with a Link Ecu on my WRX MY01. The results, concerning boost control and boost response, are great.
More important is that boost, in absolute values, is about the same-constant- in every gear, something that it couldn't be accomplished while using the stock 2 port solenoid.

Hade / Braceman, many thanks, thats what I was looking for. I think I've decided to go full decat first for a while, and then wait til I can get solenoid / fuel pump etc. and then go custom tek3 map.
