I have just bought an Impreza that needs attention to the engine.Dont really know much about the car yet as its my first Subaru.Do you have to remove the engine to remove the cylinder head on the near side of the car.

 

You dont have to remove the engine to remove a cylinder head, but would need to be an idiot to bother trying. Engine removal is pretty easy, and makes any headwork etc much easier.
