I know there is already a thread about this but i dont really want to interfere with that one as this is just an idea that i need some advice on...
This idea was partly thought about after a comment by David..

What problems would i have if i wanted to relocate my power steering pump to where my air con used to live??

I know that i will have to sort out the belt and PS pump mountings but that is not really what i need advice on..

As far as i can see there are two pipes to my PS pump (93WRX), one high pressure and one low pressure return..

I was thinking about extending both pipes so that they are long enough to reach the other side of the alternator....

The low pressure hose extension would not appear to be a problem, however.. extending the high pressure id where i need help..

The engineers at work reckon they could sort out another peice of hydrolic metal pipe with the correct join/union for the reservoir but joining the new peice to the old is the problem..

I was thinking about cutting the existing connector off and using a sleeve inside it to link it to the new peice, then welding the two together with the sleeve inside??


What is everyones thoughts on this idea??

It seems that my only problem is going to be joining the two, can such a small diameter tube be welded??

It can be done very easy.. if you want a hand doing it give me a shout.. steven (p20spd) considered doing it on his.. but I think he is scared (lazy)..

You need an aircon bracket and a ps pump.. remove the ps pump from the bracket and mount to the aircon bracket... then get someone such as pirtek to make you a custom ps hose..

Dont try sleeving it and welding it, as you dont really want the pipe around the front...

Stainless braided pipe would be

Any idea how much difference there is between teh aircon bracket and the PS pump?? i am a novice dont forget

Looks like i need another PS pump and an aircon bracket to play with for now..

needs modification...

David.. its just that it bolts straight to the block so would be an easy starting point rather than trying to fabricate something.

David, is it "minor" modification, like drilling xtra holes, or does it involve making new parts and welding them to the bracket

Totaly agree David..
I would much rather weld something to the aircon bracket to bolt the PS pump to than have to make up a bracket from scratch..
