Was putting a load of old bits in my attic for returning the car to standard at a later date, thought I would snap a few aspects that some may not have seen and fuel some custom for some aftermarket suppliers

Three ugly sisters

Recycled lemonade bottle

Interheater

Lovely end tanks

Hot gas shooting across like a missile anyone?

An overfed *****

John, I am going to buy a "03 WRX and wonder if there are any gains by removing the "Recycled lemonade bottle" from the car and put a "straight" tube that has no restrictions.
I have been told that is there for noise reduction reasons and as "back up air box"(!!!) in case you step on the gas and engine needs imediately more air but IMO is better to have a direct inlet path to the front of the car rather this box that promotes also negative boost!
What do you thing?

The WRX intake is supposedly less restrictive than the classic Subarus - have a search on NASIOC they have debated this quite a bit all on new age cars. As always watch for water ingestion problems and MAF misreads.

That looks like the pipework from under the intercooler to me.

Jim, I cut a hole in the resonator box where it was nearest the bumper corner 'gill' to act as a sort of ram pipe...it wasn't on the car long enough for me to find out if it worked before the FMIC went on and it had to go...

Would u guys consider the MY 97/98/99/00 uppipe to be "restrictive" and worth chaging for an aftermarket option

Cool

Hi Carlos,

The standard uppipe has a "bellows" type expansion joint built into it, this is definitely not good for flow. All the replacement uppipes I have seen so far do away with this expansion joint, which must help flow.

thanx Moray, problem is that I have seen some aftermarket uppipes with a larger diameter, which I don't think helps
