MY01 PPP full decat - What Boost are you getting?
As per the Title, with this cold weather I'm generally seeing as much as 1.4 (sometimes in third) and nearly always in fourth and fifth gear.
I've got my defi's set for 1.3 bar so when it hits 1.4 the red light comes on and I back off.
Should I continue to back off when it peaks at 1.4 or can I carry on accelerating.
Any comments much appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

I've got an MY01 WRX full de-cat without a PPP but with raised boost. In this cold weather my boost is only marginally higher than normal. If you are getting 1.4 bar, then you have a problem. At this level your turbo will be very inefficient and the ignition will be at the limit of its retrd capabilities. I suggest that you get it checked out.

Chris,
A friend of mine has an MY01 with PPP + full Decat and he gets exactly the same as you in this kind of weather. 1.4 on the Defi is about 1.3bar IIRC (as the Defi's don't actually read Bar). Are you talking about spiking or held as I'm talking about breif spikes with a lower held value (which I now can't remember and because of the PPP Boost clamp, the DeltaDash log can't tell me what it was either
).
If it's any consolation, all the DeltaDash logs I have for this car show absolutely no negative knock correction so the ECU certainly doesn't think there is any det taking place (whether or not that is really the case
), and the car has done a good few miles and several track days to boot with no issues (not that that really means anything).
I'll try and find out what the held values on the Defi are for you
Ta,
Matt

Chris,
I've checked and said car has done 20,000 miles in that spec. When it's very cold it can peak at 1.4 on the gauge and hold about 1.2 which is probably a "real" peak of 1.3 and held of 1.1 (which is fine on the TD04).

thanks for your help, car has done about 9.5K, it will peak at 1.4 (on the defi which you say is about 1.3 in bar) but does actually hold that for a while or at least until I back off due to soilage of the pants.....not literally
Will take car for a spin later and record the results going right up the revs to see what happens.
Cheers

Dam, didn't get time to take car out last night, wasted 1 1/2 hours watching Spurs play cack!
What do the Defi's measure in if not BAR? If 1.3 on the Defi's only equates to 1.2 as you say, this would seem about right.
Matt, would appreciate it if you could keep an eye on this post, I will be testing the car on Wednesday now but from memory it tends to hold 1.3 up until about 5K revs and then tails off slighty after this(not sure I'll see 5K revs in 5th without reaching license losing speeds
)
Cheers

The PPPs run at around 1.2bar and on a cold day up to 1.25bar.
Defis seem a bit optimistic and to see 1.3 against a true 1.2 is quite normal, so if you are seeing 1.3 I reckon its all running fine.

Pete,
It's nothing to do with being optimistic, it's because they read kgf/cm2 and not Bar. So, 1.3 on the Defi is 1.27 Bar and 1.2 on the Defi is 1.17 Bar. In reality, people tend to read to the nearest 0.1 and with them being close together and the needle often moving, it's safe to say that 1.3 kgf/cm2 on the Defi is about 1.2 bar....

Matt,
if you're still about I managed to have a good run in the car last night.
3rd gear - just goes over 1.3 (marginal) but enough for the warning light to come on - holds this until 5K revs then tails off.
4th gear - hits 1.4 then steadies again at just over 1.3 and holds until 5K revs then tails off.
5th gear - hits 1.4 and pretty much stays there up until 4.5K when I backed off as reaching high speeds.
So, my understanding is, that just over 1.3 on the Defis is just over 1.2 bar which is o.k
But in 5th, this is about 1.3 bar which is slighty high, but is it dangerously high?
Sorry to drone on, just slightly concerned still.
Once I get a knocklink fitted if this shows everything to be ok am I in the clear. I must say that the car drives superb, it never peaks above 1.4 and no dodgy spikes or cut outs.
Cheers

This does sound very much like my friend's car but I don't know if it's safe or not. 1.3 in itself is ok but this is dependent on what the fueling and ignition are doing, coupled with inlet temps.
A knocklink would be a good investment for any car that is non-standard and doing a run with someone that could DeltaDash log it might also be a good idea.
Failing that, wait for someone to post who knows what they are talking about

Cheers Matt,
Knocklink is already on the shopping list, hoping there will be some left over from the group buy.
I thought the Delta Dash would be no good because the PPP is effictively a boost clamp (only going by above post)
Who's got a delta dash then
