Question

Has anyone managed to fit a rear wiper to a 4 door...a la 22B? I'm sure it would make these cold wet mornings easier to bear if you could clear that rear screen with a single wipe!
thinking about it maybe you can get the full 22B rear wiper kit from Subaru....anyone know if thats possible?
Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ray

All imports have a rear wiper to my knowledge (someone correct me if I am wrong).

There isnt a kit available, but I am sure the mechanism is not a complicated thiong to install. The problem is that the wiper goes through the rear windshield so you unless you want to cut through the glass, I would forget it.

Do a search as I am suer this topic has been covered several times.

I asked this question a while back and found out that an application of rain-x (sp?)to the rear screen helped visability a lot.
I'm surprised non of the scooby specialists have come-up with a rear wiper kit as there seems to be a market for it.

Rear wiper would be quite a major undertaking to fit to a car which wasn't built with it.

Firstly you have to get a different rear window (or cut a hole in the glass).

Next you'll have to fit the wiper motor and all the electrics inside the boot.

Then you'll have to run the cables back through to the fuse box, and then from the fuse box to a new stalk, as the existing one wouldn't work, unless you wired up the rear to activate at the same speed/time as the front.

Probably more than a few hours work, on top of the money required to buy the rear wiper kit in the first place.

That's why most people simply use Rain-X or a similar product, as you get 80% of the effectiveness, for 1% of the cost and effort

If anyone wants some pics of the installation of the rear wiper of my Jap spec 4 door send me an email and I'll send them on to you. Scanned them for some guys on the US board who wanted pics.

Thumbs down

If I could just add a little bit to the above ... the column stalks are the other way round too, so it's probably easier to buy and service an import than do the conversion.

Dave,
AFAIK, it depends on what year you have, early cars are the same way round as Jap Spec.
