Dear all ,
I`m in the process of negociating a price for my car with the insurance company after it was written off in an accident last year , so far they have offered me £11,100 for the car which was an absolutely mint model with only 29000 miles on the clock . Do you think that this is a fair price as 18 months ago I paid nearly £14000 for it with only 12500 miles on the clock .
Cheers Dave

Never accept the first offer, those ba$tard$ always offer a cr£p price just in case they are dealing with novices.

Sorry I haven't a clue about residual values.

You'll need to prove it was mint (photos etc) but I would hold out for another £500.

I'd say it's a very good price. Residuals on most cars have come down a lot in the past 18 months.

And don't _always_ assume the worst of insurance companies. My mates 15 month old golf was written off. He paid about £15500 for it, and the insurance company's first offer (which he accepted) was around £13500.

I am in a currently in a similar situation. I wrote of an UK Spec MY 99 in January. The car only had 5800 miles on it and was in A1 condition. My insurance company has made me an offer of 19,000. I am in the process of contesting this as quote from local dealers for a replacement is in the range 19,700- 20,000.
The only problem is the wait as I have been with out a car for 2 months. Oh well hopefully it will be worth the wait.
