Question

I have a 2001 UK supplied WRX. A good friend of mine has bought a Dawes device for me - When fitted it raises boost from 1 to 1.5 bar which is great.

My question: Is the ECU capable of understanding it's being fooled and telling tales next time the car is serviced (possibly affecting warranty etc.)

If you go past about 16.5 psi (just under 1.1bar) you'll hit fuel cut. The ECU will record a code 'wastegate solenoid low' (or something similar) ie. overboost, and you'll get a CEL. The dealer will be able to read this.

1.5 bar on a standard WRX is asking for trouble m8.

sorry to ruin your fun

Thanks for this.

When we were setting up, the fuel limiter was reached and the warning light came on (which we reset).

The Dawes device was retarded until this stopped happening. So:
a) will the dealer see the early attempts where the limiter was breached even though we re-set the ECU
b) What do you reckon on running it at the current setting (e.g. below the fuel cut-off limit)

Thanks for any advice

Chris,

To reset the ECU on Bug eyes do the following:

Start engine as normal without accelerator. Allow to idle, then switch off.

Repeat 5 times.

ECU will now be reset!!

Your CEL light will also go out.

Enjoy the Dawes...I do !!
I've wired in a couple of solenoids with plumbing, and a switch and LED in the car, so I can switch on and off as required..
Excellent grin inducing device.

oops! Just re-read and you say you re-set the ECU..shouldn't be any traces then..

Wink

I've never had any error code after fitting fuel cut when setting up my Dawes!!! MY99 and MY00

Take the Dawes off before you go for a service and fit after

Cheers Phill C

PS The Dawes is a great little mod for the money, but get a AFM as well (for safety sake)
