Just reading auto express car mag, and there is a small report saying that subaru are currently working on a new scooby with a 3 litre 350bhp engine. Which will be out in 2-3 years as they are having gear box trouble as the old boxes are unable to take the tourqe of the engine, has any one else got any info and is it true.

From Cartoday

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo’s challenge to the Subaru Impreza WRX’s “King of the Road Racers” title may end abruptly when a 260 kW three-litre STi sees the light…
A source at the Japanese company recently told AutoExpress: "Subaru has something quite special in the pipeline. We're now working on a three-litre turbo Impreza that will generate in excess of 260 kW.

But the Superscooby isn’t quite ready for production yet. That is because it is simply too… powerful.

"We're having teething problems with the transmission as the current WRX STi six-speed box isn't capable of handling the torque the engine produces," the source was quoted as saying.

Several solutions are being investigated, he said, adding that a company such as Getrag, which specialises in building heavy-duty gearboxes, could develop a suitable transmission.

Meanwhile, a beefy three-litre normally aspirated engine - the platform for the abovementioned turbo unit - will be used in the next generation Legacy, which is due to be launched later this year.
