Question

i have a 93 wrx wagon import.

it has the letters "SA" on the back.

in the model history on sidc faq it states that this model had an auto box fitted post production - mine has a manual.

anyone know anything about this model or where i might find out about it?

must be very few of them.

anyone else got one and knnow more?

that way i may be able to get an accurate spec.

It was Red Dog who also had a manual SA. IIRC there are a couple of threads about the SA floating around in the Scoobynet ether, although I can't locate any of them at the moment

BTW, I also have an SA, but mine does have the auto 'box

The 1994 WRX five door came in a cheaper lightweight version called the SA thet skimmed 50kg of the overall weight, leaving out items such as the lower rear spoiler.
The car was several thousand yen cheaper than the standard five door WRX.
The five door WRX had a detuned engine with 220ps at 6,000rpm and 206lb ft at 3,300rpm and abs was optional.
The 4 speed auto box was a perculiarity of the wagon but had no special name.
Saying that i have seen an Auto saloon for sale at the auctions before yet according to my info it wasnt avalable ?...anyone got an auto saloon ?

All info is from the book "You and your Subaru Impreza Turbo

that is most helpful guys.

so what power is mine? 220 ps?

it does not have the rear spoiler, but does have aluminum bonnet. is this the lightweight version then? mine does not have abs either.

i have had it up against two friends with 2000 turbo's and they have driven mine also.

we all agree that mine feels faster and more ferocious - really barks, instead of the even, smooth progreswsion of the uk models.

the uk ones that i have driven feel more refined in some ways to my car.

when i have had the uk cars of my friends behind me on the straight, mine pulls about 300 yards out of their machines over 1/2 mile - this particualr road has an uphill gradient also.

so if mine is the 220 ps, that would be about 210 bhp right?

we all have roughly the same power - so where is the extra power in mine, surely not just the weight?

Don't know if this will be of any help, but my SA does have both rear spoilers and ABS. Maybe it's just the manual SA's that are supposed to be the lightweight versions?

Also I have sideskirts as well, but I'd hazard a guess that you don't?

The autobox was also available in early WRX saloons (i.e. before MY95). All early auto WRXs has 220ps, regardless of bodystyle.

Yes, mine's the auto box version.

220PS equates to 216.99 nags Handy unit converter here

i take your word for it that the car is approx 217 bhp, however, i do not understand why my machine outguns my two friends with the uk cars. they both say that to drive, it is more ferocious than theirs and, myself having driven theirs, feel likewise.

anyone got any bright ideas? their cars are fine engine wise, not like they are bags of nails or anything.

cheers

Lower gearing on import makes acceleration quicker.

Are the cars you've tested against newer? (sorry, I can't remember what we all have over here...) - Thus having the straight entry TD04 + other differences to give a bit smoother acceleration... It can be deceptive as Barry (a P1 owner) showed me.

Or have you done some time trials and not invited me?

I'm putting it down to gearing differences as well. If put up some speeds & revs in different gears, then we can compare to see what gearing you have.
