Need some advice.

Thinkng about getting a car cover for my WRX to protect it from the elements as I'm sick of cleaning bird s**t and dried leaves off it. However, I was told by a mate that they can do more harm than good as they retian condensation and keep the body of the car wet.

Anyone got any view on this, would really appreacite your thoughts and comments.

I think there are several types.
Some water proof some not etc.
Don't see that it is a problem as long as you take it off fairly regluarly to let it all 'breathe' as it were.

If you put the cover on a car that has dust on it, or a bit of dirt, when the wind blows it will rub said dirt into your nice shiney paint work.

Forget the idea, and live with a bit of bird sh!te!

I have two covers, one Cover Craft Gore Tex type thing for the Scoob and one Classic Additions one for the Westie. I use both inside a garage but only when the car is clean.

Well recommended and they look superb, but do support the theory re dirt as posted above.

PS A good cover will be breathable but you will pay a bit for it, so no probs about moisture building up.

Mossman - cheers for your help.

Can I pick up a good quality one anywhere - i.e. Halfords or would I need to go to a specialist.

Thumbs up

I have one from Cover Craft for my MY01 WRX cost £195. Very happy with it, fits really well and is fully breathable. I put it on the car at night even when it is fully soaked and there is little moisture left in the morning. I use it everynight and so far there is no sign of marking on the paint from dirt/dust etc. The car gets washed every week and the cover sprayed clean with water every two weeks.

Si.

follow this link for the reasons why you should use a cover.
www.cambraicovers.co.uk/ (I have no connection with this organisation, other than having just purchased one of their covers for my aircraft). Click on the section titled 'why should I cover my plane' and substitute plane with 'scooby'. Good luck.
