It's my first drive in an STI and I'm gobsmacked.

Half hour drive over motorway, A and B roads.

Impressions in no particular order:

RIDE: MY03 is not nearly as hard as all the mags said the MY 02 was. Totally acceptable for everyday driving.

LOOKS: New front lights give it the aggresive look it lacked since the Classic. The car attracted loads and loads of waves from other drivers and even pedestrians.

DRIVE: Enough power for anyone and I can't see why a PPP is needed ? maybe the MY02 lacked low down grunt but the new one is enough for anyone IMHO.

Then again in Ireland there are very few motorways so it'd be hard to use the car to its full potential.

STEERING: Strangely, I found it fairly heavy compared to regular WRX but as I said it was only a 30 minute ride

PRICE: Ah here's the rub. With the new prices for WRX's in the UK I can't see why anyone would go for the regular WRX - the STi is such a bargain.

But in Ireland we have VAT applied to Subaru Ireland's price and then VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) which is 30% which is then applied to the importer price and VAT to get 57,250 Euros which works out at £37,738 Sterling!

But besides that (big) sticking point, the STI drive has made my weekend.

Subaru Ireland are also selling their MY02 WRX stocks for 3,000 Euro less than the 42,0000 Euro MY03.
