Any building services consultants here?
I¡¦m a product designer but I have the opportunity become an engineering consultant in the building industry. (quick example of this is: to work out which A/C and heating system to go into a building, along with this the electrical stuff) I really want to see what this field is like and should I make this big leap from a designer to a building contractor.
Iv just graduated and this is the first really opportunity since iv left uni.

This is exactly what my brother does. He works for Arup & Partners currently based in Warsaw.
I am surprised that you were not cherry-picked by a company straight from Uni. as there is always a shortage for good building services engineers (especially if you have some hands-on experience already)
If you can get a few years under your belt in the UK you can then go to the US and make **** loads as the US grads. are not taught as well as the UK ones.
The Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) who I am sure are based in London may be able to offer you some more detailed career advice.

My Dad is an Electrical Contractor / Consultant. He works for a firm who specialise in dealing room refits amongst other things.
When I left school I was going to do the same, applied for loads of jobs ended up in Banking... long story.
Pay's not all that but it seems like an enjoyable job. When I flunked my A'levels he picked up some trade mags and I sat and wrote 30 letters over 2 days. Employment conditions then were not dissimilar to today. I think I landed 4 interviews and got 1 offer.
All the best.
