Question

All,

I currently own a modded 225 TT.

Due to pending increase in family numbers I am considering a deposit down for the new look STI.

I read with interest in EVo mag today that the new mods to the STI are small but very significant with net results of sharper handling (new front susp set up), better interior/dash/steering wheel and increased engine response.

Nice, I thought, as I'd never have bought one of those hideous gloopy beasts of MY01 even if they paid me.

ONLY PROBLEM WAS.......I hear that the new exhaust note is pathetic! Apparently you can hear the burble inside but not really outside....I quote EVO:

".....But there's a downside. That exhaust-pulse interference eradicated by IHI is what gives the scooby it's distinctive growling exhaust note. You still get the boxer grumble through the seat of your pants but no longer hear it. There are no plans yet to fit the revised turbo to UK spec cars but if Subaru does, will buyers feel that the extra response is worth the loss of that fabled scooby growl?"

This is a key buying criteria for me as I love the sound of that boxer engine.

So.......what do I need to fit to make it sound the business again?

It's the Jap spec car that has lost the burble because of the new twin-scroll turbo, not the UK spec car.

No go and buy one

The burble is still there on the twin-scrolled car, just a bit muted.

Yeah, the JDM car lost some of it coz of the new headers etc, but it is there, and a bit of "tuning" sees it come back - just drier.

The responses of the new car make up for more than any audible losses

IMHO of course
