Im looking for some suggections here.

My clutch judders when cold (as most do), but it also judders quite a bit when changing down if the engine speed has dropped to about 1000 rpm. If i heel & toe / blip the throttle on downshifts its fine, but this is a bit of pain in traffic.

Is this a sign my clutch is on the way out. Theres no slip when booting it.

Is it a MY02 or MY01? If so, this is known problem with Subaru. I am currently waiting for them to tell me when they have the new clutch system in so they can change it under warranty.
Speak to your dealer, they should do the same, but make sure they wait to fit the new system as the problem will reoccur if you fit the current clutch system.

Hi WRX blues,

My cars as MY93 Jap import WRX.

I understand about the judder when cold (which i have), but mine occurs when down shifting at low revs.

Is it likely the clutch is starting to go?

I have a MY94 UK, Mine also juddered when hot with no clutch slip at first, It then developed into clutch slip, so maybe its an early sign.
