I seem to remember Neil Kinnock banging on about this in the EU Parliament. Good thing I didn't vote for him. Oh, silly me, nobody did.

 

If you accidently leave your lights on do they automatically turn off when you turn the engine off(97 R reg UK model)? I have parked the car about 3 miles away from where I am now and am unsure if I turned my lights off.
Quick replies please so I can get to it if I have to.

The lights turn off.

Thats why 1) Theres no warning buzzer and 2) you have an additional switch to leave side lights on (at least my MY95 has....)

Cheers guys, I wondered why there was no buzzer. I tried leaving them on when opening the door with engine turned off and thought to myself how pants it was that there was no warning signal to let you know. Now I know why. It's a good idea to automatically turn them off.

 

And then get in the car the next day and run round with them on til mid aftenoon ......

 

Having a UK 97 and UK 99 car, I know they both switch off the lights when the keys are taken out (unless you've left the parking light on)

Oh dear, don't you know?

EU directive mentioned on the radio the other day, all new vehicles from 2004 or 2005 (can't remember which) must have daytime lights a la Volvo.

Yea, fine for Scandinavia (midnight sun etc.) ridiculous in Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

My Canadian MY01 has Daytime Running Lights, which turn off when you put the handbrake on. Very annoying!
