Cool

It is just the same as buying on 'the mainland' Stick it on the ferry and take it home. Is it a private sale or from a dealer?

I have only spoke to the seller this morning but i'm making the necessary arangements to fly over with a view to buying if the car is as advertised. It's from a private seller. The car is a MY99 with 29K on the clock. It would only be the second car I've bought so my experience is limited although i am aware of the pitfalls and have hopefully done my homework. I'm going to do an Hpi check (I'm awaiting the VIN number)and if possible speak to the dealer where the car is serviced. Is it worth getting the AA to do an inspection?

Other than that I presume it's just like buying any other 'UK' car.

Thanks again for the advice.

Question

I've arranged to go and view an impreza but it's in N.Ireland. I've spoken to the seller and they tell me it's UK spec and it appears to be exactly what I'm looking for. I'm just wondering if there are any pitfalls associated with buying a car from Northern Ireland other than associated with buying a second hand car. Is there any problems with bringing the car back to England or is it just a case of bringing it back on a ferry.

Thanks for any advice.

The only difference with buying a car registered in NI is that it is registered with the DVLA(NI) in Coleraine as apposed to DVLA Swansea. When it comes to taxing and registering it in GB you will have to complete a form officially importing the car to GB.
This should not put you off as it is simply a paperwork exercise and involves no extra cost to yourself (bar the ink and postage!).
The car is automatically a 'UK' car because it has been registered in NI. Contact DVLA Swansea as soon as possible in order for them to send you the forms and 'get the ball rolling'.
Hope this helps.

Just on the re-registration issue, you can choose to keep the current registration plate on the car, or have a new one issued to you.

If you want to post over in the Ireland Forum, some of us may know the car?
