Clutch on my MY00 feels like an unbalanced washing machine giving a spin to a couple of housebricks. It happens when starting from cold (thats the Scoob not the washing machine!). Mostly disappears when at normal temp.

It started with about 16K on the clock, it's now got 19+K and it's getting worse. Any ideas? Warped plate? Oil on plate? Or just bad karma?

Most important of all, has anyone with a similar problem managed to get Subaru UK to stump up on the warranty for a brand spanker?

Ta,

They all do that sir, something you'll hear quite often on here.
Got to your dealer and see what they say, lots have had it fixed, depends on the age of the car though.

I got mine replaced at 20k. So take it to your dealer and see what they say. I think its down to the material used for the clutch plate which is designed to cope with the torque of the engine, shame the gearbox isn't designed the same.

If you don't get any joy then there is a temporary fix of applying the handbrake, putting the car in reverse and slowly releasing the clutch until it starts to bite, hold it for about 1-2 seconds then put the clutch in again. It will smell a bit, but what you are doing is basically cleaning up the surface. Works for about a month.

There is another method but its normally reserved for dealers who have no mechanical sympathy - basically do a full bore standing start, engage 1st gear, put 4-5k on the rev counter, side step the clutch and floor it. Personaly I prefer to keep my gearbox in one piece so use the first method when it gets really bad.

Best solution is probably to buy an AP clutch and enjoy a judder free car.

Thanks for the advice, lads.

Dave, I think I'll take it in the order you've listed. I'm cringing just thinking about the last option!

Looking forward to fewer dislodged teeth during cold starts!
