I have just had our entry accepted for this years Tour of Mull

We have been making the pilgrimage to Mull for the last 10 years, spectating and servicing for some friends but this will be our first year competing.
I AM RIGHT CHUFFED !!!!

Have you any links or further info for the tour of mull. I've heard the rally exists but haven't been able to get any more info. on it.

Let us know the where ( more detail than just "Mull" preferably )and when and I'll maybe see you there

....Tour Of Mull - the fastest bits of tarmac outside of the Manx and Eire ....ferchrisakes dont look down coming off the mountain, tis wall and then a fortnight drop into the North Sea and ur strapped in a Mark2 escort doing 90 down a narrow lane with some insane driver sat next to u grinning like a **** and u know in your heart of hearts he's not listening to your notes

You don’t know what you are missing!!
One of only two closed road rallies in the UK, The only rally I have seen where a BDA MKII Escort can beat GrpA Impreza’s and Evo’s (..OK he does live on the island and he is a complete nutter), and you have not seen roads until you have been to Mull.
As the organising club says “The best rally in the world”
If you go once you will go for the rest of your life!

Well I'll be there,I've been promising myself to go for the last few years and was really pi55ed off when it was cancelled earlier on,anyway this year has now become a definate for me.
I did'nt realise that it was a proper rally i.e. Loads of night stages

Do you have to book the ferry in advance or just turn up & how much is it,also is camping allowed on the island?

Looks like I'm going back this year after a 3 year break Will be marshalling on Mishnish (stages 1, 6, 9 and 15).

555 - depends on when you're travelling and which ferry you take. We've always taken the "big" ferry from Oban to Craignure on the Friday afternoon. It's always full so booking is essential. Try

 

If you are thinking of going and want to take your car across phone Caledonian Mcbrayne now! as our friends who are also competing have booked today but already could not get there choice of crossing. It costs about £42.00 return for a car and £6 pre person return,(Oban-Craignure) the car places need to be booked. When extra people have come up with us in the past they have left their car in Oban and come across as a foot passenger and piled in one of the vans on the island.

I competed there in 1987 (going back a bit) and had a great time, stayed for a week, roads were a bit scary doing 90mph on black ice, but hey thats whats it all about,good pub in Tobermory and only one copper on the island

it is all 100% tarmac now (cheeper on tryes),
There is some new pubs in Tobermory (not that we ever go in them ), they have got a new main road from Salen to Tobermory (it feels like a moterway compred to all the other single track roads!), but I am afraid the black ice has not changed!!

Had a run at Binbrook the other week. (shakedown for Mull)

Was that Binbrook as in the Airfield in S.Yorks,if so is there much left of the runways cos I know they started digging them up & do any aircraft fly from there ?

We did have gravel stages on the saturday afternoon with road sections on the friday and saturday nights from tobermory to dervaig and the Calgary loop down to Gruline.Mind you you shouldn't get lost as there's only one or two junction, one of which was called back then as Orrick's junction near Dervaig after Dave Orrick a top navigator for Steve Egglestone wrong slotted !!

Yes that’s right just outside Market Rasen. They used to fly Lancaster bombers from there in the war, as the tarmac/concrete was thick enough to take the weight. It is no longer operational and is now mainly used for motor sport events. They have taken a lot up which has left the tracks at different levels and surfaces. It was one of the better single venue events I have seen, as there was a good mix of size (the longest stage was about 11 miles) corners and surfaces.

Thanks for the tips, hopefully our pace notes will keep us on track as we have been perfecting them for the last few years that we have been up there. Most of the notes work well now with just a few sections on Calgary bay to sort, namely just after the beach round the cliff edge by the Armco.
Time to start watching the in-car video footage again! (and get some BIG lights sorted).
I will post closer the time once we have got some seeding information back.
Our friends who have competed for a while now will be in their new Grp A (nearly) Impreza, while I will be navigating in a Grp1 MKII Escort.
