I've had a huming noise coming from the rear end, after some help from Scoobynetters I'm positve its the handbrake release. When I release the handbrake on a hill, the car stays put (sometimes). If I engage and release the hand brake it seems release.

Any suggestion as to a fix would be very welcome. UK97 btw.

same problem I have. it sticks on. when you pull away it goes squeek squeek squeek

been back to the dealers 3 times and they clean them all up, re-copper slip the movin' bits, and 1 day later it does it again.

i just live with it at the mo. pulling the handbrake FULL on then releasing works for me. just a bit of a pain in the ar$e tho!

Have you checked the handbrake cable is slipping smoothly?

 

easyrider, I've not done that, as I don't know how to, can you give me any pointers.

What i would do is a bit of a long drawn out process,remove the rear disks(you can find out how to do this on a recent thread about squeeky brakes),give the shoes a good clean with brake claner while youve got access,disconnect the handbrake cable,get someone to raise & lower the handbrake lever while you pull on it at the other end,if it pulls through fairly easily then it could point to weak springs or even rough/corroded surfaces that the shoes slide over,also check the adjuster at the bottom of the assembly between the 2 shoes(may be too tight).
I hope this helps,i had a similar problem recently and it turned out to be the adjuster was too tight + the edges of the shoes were braking up + lodsa break dust! Its been fine since i give them a good seeing too
