A mate off mine has a 98 STi typeR, a year ago the engine let go on the no 3 cylinder, the engine was rebuilt & fitted with Cosworth pistons, the car runs great but uses a little oil, when planting his foot down at the near end off the rev range a large plume/puff off mainly brownie smoke appears, what hes asking is that is this because the car was rebuilt using cossie pistons or is there a prob lurking round the corner??

if it is of any help - my old cossie did the same brown smoke, just before the head gasket blew !

 

doubt it will be the HG, didnt that year of car/model have a closed deck block....??? i.e less likly to blow the HG...

Is he used octane booster at all...?????

No hes not using any octane booster just plain old optimax, he was told that the brown smoke was a common occurance when using cossie pistons but hes just being careful by asking me to ask the collective, anybody else using cossie pistons care to reply?
