Oil Cooler Port Orientation
When fitting an oil cooler, would you do so with the inlet and outlet ports on the upper or lower end of the cooler?
If the ports are along the lower end, will much air be trapped in the cooler's core, thereby resulting in less than satisfactory cooling performance?

You always want the outlet at the top to avoid air trap and avoid drain down. Inlet can be top or bottom but pref top as the oil can still drain back through the oil pump if it is on the bottom.
Yes, the oil cooler full of old oil after an oil change was the rationale for having it "inverted"...
EDIT:
I do see 7-8kPa (depending on RPM) on the Defi oil press gauge. Also, the reponsiveness of the pressure between idle and open throttle is as good as another WRX without an oil cooler. If air were indeed trapped in the oil cooler, it would make the oil pressure response very sluggish, won't it?
