could be the old 'coil packs' gone. they are prone to show up / cause missfire etc when pushed or at high revs. they only real way to prove it is to swappen for a new / borrowed set!

Depending on what year your car is, they are usually sat on the intake manifold with the 4 spark plug leads coming out (2 going left, 2 going right). bit black block usually.

obviously, it could be loads of things other than these, but if you do a search on coil Im sure there was a large thread about it not so long ago.

On the early cars you have coil packs which you'll find on top of the spark plugs!!

On the later cars (MY97&gt they have a coil on the manifold and HT leads to the plugs (like most cars)

Red,
I would suspect it to be your coil packs! They are expensive so try and borrow a set to confirm the fault before you buy a new set!!!

May not be the same problem but the map sensor pipe fell off on mine and it wouldn't rev above about 5k - felt like it was hitting the rev limit. Pipe is near brake servo (ish).
