where's all my power gone?

Just had the car in for one of the 15k services, fairly expensive with new brakes etc. but it has to be done.
But wait!!!!! Instead of the returning car being sweet and smooth I find I have lost all power!!!!
Well, maybe not all, but I'd say I'm a good 20% down. 2nd gear feels really sluggish, if I lift off the throttle then down again, it seems to feel a bit better sometimes, but it's not he ideal overtaking procedure!
Any ideas?
It's a totally standard MY97 UK Turbo Wagon with 53k miles and spotless history. I run on Optimax 90% of the time, Super Unleaded if I can't get the Optimax.
