Is it my imagination ,but lately everybody is looking for new turbos is this the next thing wrong with scoobs after maf sensors all going at same time or the dredead no 3 piston or do these thing just go wrong all the time or at certain milage

The later MYs ran smaller turbos to reduce lag but people who want more power want bigger turbo hence people looking for hybrids, VF22 and VF23 units which flow more than the VF24,28,29 of the V4,5,6 STI. Also the UK TD04 Mitsubishi turbo was smaller from MY97 onwards then the previous TD05 to reduce lag and bottom end torque.

I guess people who want to remap also want to take advantage of a bigger turbo.
