Question

Hi all - my first post in ages - I have been trying to be good

Its summer (is it?!) and the Folding Camper is coming out of slumber to go on hols.

Now, last year I noticed that the rear wheel arches were about 2 mm away from the tyres!! every bump meant the body scraping the tyres - NOT nice.

I have contacted TOWSURE who do spring assisters, they told me to measure the distance between the coils, so they can supply me with the correct item - imagine my surprise when I see that the Impreza has just ONE coil (or one twist!) if you see what I mean. Therefore a spring assister will not assist it would simply STOP the damn thing working!!

I have reduced the noseweight on the towbar but its not good to have it too light.

Has anyone any answers?

I know I am leaving myself open for abuse - but what the hell, have a pop!! as long as I get a sensible answer too!!

Pete

Pete,

I'm starting to wonder if there's a problem with the rear springs of the Impreza in general...

Reason being Gregh recently had his springs upgraded to Eibach stuff at Tyres Northampton, and the fitters said that the rears were buggered - no spring in them at all...

My rear end is starting to sag (had to put that in just so someone could quote it) on my MY00 and I've seen quite a few Imprezas in the same way.

Anyone else noticed this? Anyone else going to be vising TN?

Thumbs up

I changed my wheels for 17" with a 50 offset, the tyres used to catch 4up. I took the rubber protecting strips off the back arches and replaced them with door trim protector - it does th job of protecting against stone chips but gives the extra clearance you need.

Mr Lewis, I am a fellow tower, so will offer my experiences. I tow a 16 foot ski boat with a V6 lump in it, very heavy! But I have not experienced what you describe. My car is fitted with Eibach Springs and shocks.

Perhaps this is the route you should follow, although the ride is incredibly uncompromising.

Peter.

You could always put the weight at the *rear* of the trailer, so the back of your car is actually lifted into the air instead of being pushed down...

Thanks all - (well, nearly all)

I must admit that I was shocked when I saw that the rear springs consisted of nothing more than 1 coil!!!!! must be intentional?
