You are never going to believe this guys but the 4wd Scooby STi was 5 secs slower per lap around Goodwood than a 996 Carrera 2wd.... This can not be right, as everyone knows Scoobys can beat Porsches for breakfast.

And the Focus was 2 secs faster around Goodwood than the Scooby STi..... They must have cheated !!!!

I demand a recount.....

Please can someone explain how a 4wd Scooby can be slower than those dodgy Porsches and more importantly slower than a fwd Focus?????

I thought 4wd meant it was faster than any other car on the planet?

slower per lap around Goodwood
so that'll be on track, then, just like the scoob's hunting ground isn't.

I reakon that 4wd is real bonus round good wood, all those gravel corners.

I take it you want to start an argument?

But what argument is complete without the BMW element?

Your argument is poor without the essential M3 ingredient, can you please start another one.

Perhaps you might have won if you used the Horse racing track, your car is more suited there!

No, the M3 is rwd and so it too would be killed !

Actually I have no interest in starting an argument my point is merely that these threads referring to 'road combats' lead to a false impression of a cars absolute performance..... It is just food for thought.

I agree, you will need the following for a proper arguement here:

An E36 M3
An E46 M3
A standard P1
A modified Scoob
A Sierra Cosworth
Co55ie
Co55ie's Chick
Some 1/4 miles times
Some 0-100mph times
Some anecdotes about BMW drivers
Some anecdotes about Impreza drivers
A nova with 16v lump in.
A dyno plot
A better dyno plot
A spec list
A better spec list
The elvington results
The Norris Evo
A broken gearbox
3 candles
1 lump of cheese (optional).

If you can gather all of the above (with the exception of the optional cheese) please come back with a proper arguement.

Paul, it's obvious you are a blinkered Scooby driver, as your list is missing quite a few ingredients:

. the PPP
. WRX vs old model
. gravel
. PE vs PS vs Star vs Well Lane etc
. the NurburgRing
. Jeremy Clarkson
. dumpvalves (oooh errr)
. a Saxo
. pink dampers
. 1000 BHP Skyline
. EVO-ness
. E30 M3

erm...

No surprises here. If you look back at prev autocar track issues you will find the new shape scoobs slower than the aforementioned. The mule RS focus was 2 secs quicker than the UK300 PPP round Rockingham in 2001.

In fact you have to go back to 2000 and the P1 WR to find a scoob posting decent times - oh and also being best in the wet and also being in the top 5 favourites alongside supercars and caterhams etc. - Not a bad result for anti subaru Autocar

The porsche will always be quicker round a wide open track, they have more grip (wider tyres) and better brakes (than a stock Subaru, not all models). On a different track, the times might have been reversed.

Just remember that most people buy Porsches becasue they can afford them, not because they know how to drive them

Pavlo,

what kind of cheese is it?

Trout

PS .....and you missed Aaron Bird and W9GTR off the list too - 'cos no matter what they would have been driving they would have been quicker anyway

Or a westy with a cossie engine (YB of course) in it.

P.S. Cars corner better than bikes. 4 wheels grip better than two. Simple physics
