Question

I have a personalised plate on the car at the moment, and am wondering what will happen to it if i transfered another personalised number to the vehicle?

Would i have to pay a fee to put the original number on retention?

Just wondering if anyone had already done this, otherwise i will have to ask at my (not so)local VRO.

Thanks.

Phil,
I used to buy and sell reg no's.
If you put another number on your existing car then you will have to put your current car's reg no on a "retention certificate" which lasts for 1 year at a time and costs £105 you would need to do this yearly, the best option is to transfer your current number onto a family members car which would cost £85 and is called a back to back transfer then you can leave it there for as long as the vehicle is kept !!
Ring me if you need any more info.

If you want to retain your original cherish plate - yes. It costs £105 to do and (I think) - you can keep the retention certificate for up to 1 year without putting it on another vehicle - therafter it goes back to the DVLA pool.........
Your car would then be allocated a randomized plate appropriate for the year of make.

The £105.00 includes assignment fee to another vehicle (£80.00) and retention fee (£25.00). After 12 months if you have not assigned the plate you can apply for a further 12 months retention at £25.00. You can renew this annually until you get bored or sell it!

Question

Thanks,

I already have a reg no. on retention which has the transfer fee already paid(cost me £105 to remove it), which could be transfered to any other car and not cost anything. But what about the personalised reg. that it is going to replace? would it cost another £105 to keep it?

Chris,

Got my new wheels today Knew i would get some in the end

Phil.
