Had some fun with both these drivers.

First one was ST200 who went past me very fast when I was doing the speed limit so had to show him who was boss on the straight needless to say left him for dead and he was trying very hard. Ha Ha.

The CLK took a little more effort he was in front of me through road works on the exit of road works he floored it and pulled into inside lane cause I was up his ***.

The whole way through 4th pulled me about three car lengths ahead but when I went for 5th at the red line he started catching me again but then I pulled away again. Backed off after that and funny enough he didnt try and pass me again. Wonder why!!

That was when my car was totally standard UK spec, it now has down pipe and ss bbox so would be more of an *** kicking now!

Not sure what engine was in CLK but I understand there are various spec, but it was pretty quick. (not quick enough!!!)

 

I take it you drive a UK turbo with no modifications then?
Ive had a few run ins with CLK's the 320's? or are they 340's? anyway, easy meat wasnt a problem leaving them in a slightly modified UK car (PPP and Scoobymania Downpipe )

Yeah UK spec turbo and no mods at that time.

But have Downpipe and Scooby Sport back box now.

So should be even less of a problem wooopin their asses now!!

The only problem with racing on twisty stuff is if you don't know the road.

Staigh lines proves the car, twisties prove the driver too.

Lesser stuff can beat you then.

It's amazing how fast you can go on private roads

Sorry mate, but redline in 4th, going up to fifth is just plain dangerous on public roads (assuming that's where you were)

Speed alone is not dangerous.

It is inappropriate speed and speed which does not suit the road conditions.

Anyone else wanna comment on this subject of speed?

Agree that speed alone is not dangerous, but it's worth looking at now and again! At 90mph you're covering 132 feet every second... so if anything did go TU, you'll have covered say 120 feet before you begin to move you're right foot..!

 

So Everybody with a scooby on here never goes above 60-70mph.

Its not like I drive flat out everywhere only very occasionally and only then when the conditions allow it.

 

No speed alone isn't dangerous. Having something appear from the side of the road right in front of you whilst at top whack is dangerous though. Not had a tyre blow out on me at speed either, but dunno what would happen at high speed, or hitting some oil/mud, etc. The main roads aren't kept in a brilliant condition so you can't second guess the surface.

Particularly on country roads....if you met yourself coming the other way, impact collision of 160 odd mph....nasty.

To be honest, I tend to stick to speed limits. I don't really care about top end, most cars can get there and travel at warp speed. I'm more bothered about acceleration (up to the speed limit).

Sorry if I came over all PC and one of the do-gooders cos that wasn't what I intended. Having been in a slow speed accident (about 30mph) would hate to see something at > 70mph if it can be avoided.

Yeah agree with you on that Hanslow.
I think excessive speed on back roads and country roads is dangerous especially during the day cause they are never empty. At least at night using lights its a bit easier to judge if anything is coming but still demands extreme caution.

On large deserted roads late at night when there is very litte traffic and preferably on dual carrageways or empty stretches of motorway speed is reasonably safe.

 

for me personally, straight roads for top speed & as said correctly earlier that proves the car, right conditions etc of course....
then the twisties for the driver...well I never go fast on country roads unless I can see what's round the corner/bend before I enter it, if I can't then I hold back...due to this I have been beaten numerous times by ******** who will do 70mph round a blind corner probably on a road they don't know!!

Derek - if it was a 240 CLK then only 170bhp and 177 ft/lb - you'd have to be in a 430Clk to get the legs on a scoob.

But racing in a straight line is for the lower orders - the twisty bits sort the drivers as opposed to the cars ;D

 

I had a CLK - handled like jelly and couldn't pull the skin off a custard - but a fabulous long distance tourer.

There are a couple of CLKs that would whoop Scoobies *** - the CLK AMG 55 - and the Brabus 7litre CLK - they are both fairly nippy.

Now about that BMW Alpina last night...

 

Think it was the 320CLK but not sure.

 

Red line in 4th is about 130 MPH in a UK scoob....

Instead of racing why didn't you just get your ***** out and see who's was bigger??

 

Obviously Derek's was - it was probably a bird in the CLK

 

I remember a thread on here a few weeks ago taking the p*ss out of boy racing on another forum. Evereyone holier than thou.
And if some think it is safer tanking it at night on country roads as they can see lights coming etc B*llocks - show me the sheep or deer with fitted morettes

Scooby driver tried the same to me in my 928 manual GT. Blew him away with changing from 3rd gear. Still I am impressed by their performance and I am thinking of getting one.

 

why dont you try racing a cossie on the track then if you are so hot. Its easy to go round bends with 4 wheel drive .More fun with rear wheel drive. I have got a scooby and a cossie and the cossie beats it acceleration every time.The cossie wipps m3's mercs scoobys. The scooby wips them in the bends.

Doesn't the ST200 have a higher top speed than a UK scoob, around 147mph, wouldn't have thought there would be much in it in a straight line at high speed. Not enough for him to be left for dead anyway.

I refer you to the REV's scooby V cossie feature where they compared standard with standard, light mod with light mod, heavy and so on. Scooby came out on top in their opinion. The problem is a huge percentage of cossies are now owned by die hard fans that chuck lots of time and money at them. They then wipe the floor with a standard scooby where the owner doesn't even know SUL or Optimax exists and think that all scoobies suck. There are so nice big powerful scoobs out there too you know.....pity I don't have one of them
