Funny Noise

When driving in 4th gear at the car hits approx. 40 mph/2000 rpm I get a strange whooshing/zapping noise, which lasts for about a second and it does the same sound when the speed decreases past 40 mph.
A week ago I had a buzzing noise at 4000 rpm, which I think was the heat shield, but this has now gone. Could this new noise be the heat shield?.
Any Advice would be great.
