Chaps,

From Chiark's Ice Faq, Audioman describes the ariel connection needed for a new head unit and from what I can make out, the OE fit (Kenwood) Double DIN unit uses what I would describe as the traditionally "standard" ariel plug which is about an inch long and is a male connector. Anybody know if this is the case? I've just bought a Sony CDX-MP70 and I think that this uses this type of connector also so I'll double check tonight.

Also, Audioman mentions that you need an ISO connector (Autoleads adaptor) which is what I would have assumed was the case but then, in this post hades mentions:This implies that the Subaru connector is not an ISO one???? (I thought all new cars and Head Unit's used ISO connectors???)

If it's the same unit as the MY01 WRX, i used the adapter from halfords which made life an awful lot easier.

The aerial was the same as every aerial connector i've ever come across so should fit no probs (mine did!)

Was it an ISO adaptor from Halfords? Why did you need this? Like I said, doesn't the car use an ISO connector (my UK MY00 did)?

I got a ISO -> Subaru connector off my dealer. Same make as the halfords ones [autoleads?]


p.s. no, it doesn't use a ISO loom.

Will confirm that as I'm being quoted

The MY01/02 uses a strange plug that I think is unique to Scooby and certainly isn't an ISO one. Mine is fitted with an autoleads adaptor, bought from a proper ICE shop.

The same part number is quoted for the classic shape scoobys - so perhaps all UK spec cars have always had the same sort of plug? Never played with the stereo on a classic.

 

It looks like a connector used on some Honda's

 

I must admit, when I changed the stereo in my previous MY99, I don't remember buying an adapter like I had to on my MY02.

Had a chat wirh my friendly dealer and the MY00 UK cars had the same Subaru specific connector on the loom but they had an adaptor to ISO as standard. That's why my ISO fitting on my last stereo connected straight up.

The whole point of ISO (International Standards Organisation) is to eliminate problems like this....Down to the shop for me then.

It all makes sense now then. The MY00s came with the adaptor already installed and used an ISO radio, the MY01+ needs the same adaptor as the radio uses the Subaru standard.
