Tends to vary quite a bit depending on how hard it's driven....I know that's obvious but it's a big swing...I have seen averages over 33 but only during 100's of miles of French motorway driving at a steadyish 90...over here on motorways always under 30 mpg and when pottering about 22-24...A good drive brings it down to somewhere around 20ish!...Out of interest what was your before bhp figure out of interest?...Also did you fit it yourself and did you have it looked at on a rolling road?

The PPP has been doing this for ages thus my last run of 480 miles on 1 and 1/3rd of a tank of optimax = 360 miles per tank

Since fitting a Tek2 remapped ECU to my 99MY Turbo, the fuel consumption has actually improved !

Measured over 7 full tanks, with no other mods, I'm getting 10% better on the motorway, with 29.5 mpg on one tank at 80-90.
About 2mpg better overall.

By the way, the car also has 15% more power and torque than before.

Average last 8000 miles was 22.7 Best of 28.2, worst 19.4

Last 2000 miles on Tek2 has been 24.5. Best 29.5 worst 21.5
Part of this 'could' be down to more motorway miles, but I can vouch for a certain improvement at 80/90 cruising.

Power is up to just below 250bhp with no other modifications. It picks up better in the mid-range and you could change gear at 4k and make solid progress if you wanted. It also revs easier above the 5k mark where it used to tail off a bit.

What MPG are you getting on yours ?

Three questions:-

If the PPP and Ecutek both rich up the mix how come the MPG is better ?

Is it because the turbo spools up better and you don't need to rev it as hard for the same amount of go ?

How come all the selling points on Ecutek and PPP are about power and driveability rather than 'the potential for better fuel consumption' - surely one aim of most Subaru drivers !

If its old news how come I didn't know about it !!

I think that the whole point Subarus tend to throw petrol into the engine!!

The TEK provides better fueling (leaner mix) and so uses less fuel ??

I have noticed an improvement since having my TEK 2.5 fitted. Uses less fuel than before. I was getting 31 MPG on a run with air con on, so am looking forward to my next long run. I can see an improvement around town though

That's exactly the point though - the Ecutek gives a richer mixture, not leaner, yet the MPG is STILL better !

 

I thought you were supposed to be suspicious of any mods which offered greater performance and better fuel economy.

It can't run any richer than it already is surely. I thought that the car was running leaner, hence the extra power John where are you ?

Part of the reason why I posted this !

The exhaust has more soot - hence the richer mix.

The only explanation I have (which is what JB suggested) is that you get more for less revs. You certainly don't NEED to rev to the top of the engine range as much as before.

At the moment, touch wood etc etc I see no downsides to this mod.

 

just had ecutec fitted fuel consumption is slightly up but when you have decat and k&n induction with the end result being 285bhp with 0 knock and rich throughout the rev range (proved to me on the delta dash by mervin) on a uk i can put up with it

I believe the Tek 2 has a richer mixture at lower revs cos there is a lean spot with the original map. In the midrange and upper revs it is leaned out a tad. Towards red line it is left as is for safety reasons.

Another 90mph / 26.5 mpg tank - definitely better motorway mpg

 

It's a bit wierd, 'cos AFAIK, the fuelling change of the PPP & EcuTek will only make a difference under acceleration, not cruising. But there's definately an mpg improvement (I've a Tek2 too ). I have noticed that I don't use WOT very often at all on the motorway any more (no need, it seems ) so if fuel used is related to how far down the pedal is (which I suppose is fairly correct!), then mpg should be up.

Seriously though I was impressed with my brief TEC3 experience. It may be smoother and topend heavy but the acceleration is so vast that no amount of smoothness can hide the fact your flying!

 

I've found with my TEK 2.5 that I don't need to use WOT, half as much as I did before. Car just flys, and picks up great on part throttle.

A chap in Bristol drove my car the other day, and he's got a TEK 2 and he reckons mine is so much better I just need my Delta Dash software (that's hopefully on route) and John can release the final 0.5 and I have a full TEK 3 What that will be like god only knows.

Kenny, my car with the manifold has the sort of thump I think you would really like - it goes from about 10-20 PSI over about 300 RPM, and a very interesting exhaust note. Can't wait to put a bigger turbo on it

Having a remap has got to be done, the car is soo much smoother than before. It's a bonus that it goes like **** off a shovel and the fuel economy speaks for itself

Trouble is you tend to do more miles

Oh and another thing, when the Mechanic logged my car on the select monitor he said there wasn't ANY knock, at all. He couldn't believe it as all Scoobies knock to a certain degree. He said I must have a good car / ECU
