Default GC8 Steering Wheels / Squibs Fitment

I have a 96'97 T2k with the very old horrible blobby steering wheel ......... bought a later style wheel from a 99... however the plug connectors are NOT the same !

Should I replace the squib / clock spring / steering roll connector ?

Would the squib from a later GC8 plug into the older model car such that the later steering wheel can plug in ? ie Fit 98261FC002 to a 96 car

Or should I fit later connectors to the existing squib

Am not sure if the car / airbag wiring is the same and only the plugs are different.

TIA for advice

Unfortunately the MY97 Airbag wiring diagram doesn't include the (AB)connector outlines whereas the MY98> does

Seems there are 3 parts
1 - Steering wheel connectors
2 - Squib and ts wiring
3- the SRS airbag control module and circuitry

... a lot to unpack re feasible, compatible and safety
Reading forums its an endless rabbit hole

The wheel I have has airbag ... the car is a 96 ...pre facelift interior & bumpers but facelift bonnets and lights.
