Ohio new to the forum but not new to owning subarus
Just picked up a Subaru legacy 2008 diesel. I noticed on startup it is quite smoky black smoke not burning oil not burning coolant when driving. Seems to be very smoky black smoke and not a lot of power. Any idea what this could be? No codes on ECU. Any information would be muchly appreciated

Mine was like that from new; clouds of black soot every time I put my foot down. Nor did it have much power (148bhp). Unfortunately it's just not a good diesel unit. In fact, I'm amazed that the early ones are still running, given the failure rates. Legacys are great cars, but the diesel flat four wasn't...
