Default Remote central locking not working - 2009 Impreza/Legacy - common issue?

Hi all,
I have a 2009 Impreza; the central locking started playing up (not responding) and after a while stopped working completely.
I tried changing the keyfob batteries, but to no avail. This also happens with both keys I have so it's not that...

My keys are like this:

Manually opening/closing doors works, both with key and with button inside the car.
All fuses seem to be OK, but maybe I missed some?
The same thing is happening in the same vein to my father's 2009 Legacy, so it must be something fairly common, but I can't find any reliable info.

Any idea what to check?
Thanks in advance!

Have you checked for information in your owners manual under section 2- Keys and Doors ??

Have attached a pdf with the procedure for re-registering keyless transmitter for Euro LHD (no sigma alarm fitted)

Alas, my manual does not appear have that... in any case, thanks!, I tried, and these are the result:
  • I was able to put the car in registration mode (the connector is behind the pop-off plastic panel left of the driver's left foot)
  • neither key would register: after pressing the lock button on the key twice, nothing would happen
  • I also tired to first de-register the keys, and that worked (the car locked and unlocked itself to signal that, as per manual)
So... still back to square one, I guess.
Any idea?

I'll try the same procedure on my father's 2009 Legacy, just in case

Most other diagnostics requires Subaru Select Monitor.

Attached is page 1 of the keyless entry system to confirm all fuses checked
Voltage of the battery in the key needs to be greater than 2.5v

Keyless transmitter registration for the Legacy reads the same.
